On Monday, April 6, Orthodox believers begin Holy Week, a special period before Easter. This time is dedicated to spiritual purification, prayer, and remembrance of the last days of Jesus Christ’s earthly life.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine .

Holy Week is considered one of the most important periods in the church calendar. During these days, believers remember the suffering, crucifixion, and burial of Jesus Christ, so the period has a restrained and focused character.

The first day of the week, Holy Monday, is traditionally associated with inner cleansing and reflection. Believers try to spend this day calmly, paying more attention to prayer and avoiding conflicts.

On this day, it is recommended to observe fasting, as well as refrain from negative emotions and excesses.

In particular, among the main prohibitions:

  • not to quarrel or sort things out
  • do not drink alcohol and do not break the fast
  • not to hold a grudge or be jealous
  • not to harm nature, in particular not to break branches of fruit trees

In addition to the beginning of Holy Week, April 6 commemorates the Venerable Mary of Egypt, as well as Saints Eutychius of Constantinople and Methodius of Moravia.

People also associate this day with signs regarding future weather and harvest, in particular, they pay attention to the temperature, fog, and starry sky.
