Honey Spas or Makoveya: how much do the main products cost for the holiday?

On August 1, Ukraine celebrates an Orthodox holiday known as Medovy Spas, Makovy, and Spas na Vody. However, the prices of the main products of this holiday hit the pocket.

The cost of poppy seeds and poppy seed filling

At ATB, regular dry poppy seeds cost 27.90 hryvnias for 125 grams. Poppy seed filling costs almost 70 hryvnias for 275 grams.

In Silpo, 125 grams of dried poppy seeds cost 45.99 hryvnias, and prices for ready-made filling start at 55.99 hryvnias for 140 g.

Varus sells dry poppy seeds for UAH 31.40 per 150 g, and the filling costs UAH 84.90 per 380 g jar.

The cost of honey

At ATB, the cheapest 250-gram jar of honey will cost 61.90 hryvnias.

At Silpo, prices for this product start at 34.40 hryvnias per 100 grams.

You can buy it at Varus for 36.60 hryvnias for a 125-gram jar.

You can also buy honey at fairs and from beekeepers, but prices at retailers can fluctuate.

Earlier, the State Statistics Service reported that prices for basic food products increased by approximately 13% and will continue to rise in the coming months .

As a reminder, the State Statistics Service reported that over the year, prices for all basic products in Ukraine have increased significantly: in June 2025, inflation for consumer products reached 23.2%, while the overall consumer price index was only 14.3% . The highest jump was recorded for apples (+195.5%) and cabbage (+150.3%), which indicates an unprecedented overheating of the food market.
