“Hot on the Spot”: SBU caught a Russian agent near the capital’s TPP
The security service has detained another agent in the Kyiv region who worked for Russian military intelligence. The attacker was preparing new rocket attacks by the occupiers on thermal power plants in the capital region of Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
According to SBU cyber specialists, the man initially received an assignment from the occupiers to covertly bypass the perimeter of one of the thermal power plants in order to monitor its technical condition after the previous shelling.
During the sortie, he was supposed to “report” to the occupiers in real time about everything he saw on the territory of the energy facility, with photographic evidence of technological structures and equipment.
Security Service officers caught the agent “red-handed” while he was conducting reconnaissance near a potential “target.” At the scene, they seized his smartphone, which he had used to photograph the exterior of the thermal power plant.
As the investigation established, the order of the Russian GRU was carried out by a 26-year-old resident of the Fastiv district, who had previously served a sentence for the murder of an underage girl.
The recidivist came into the sights of Russian special services through a Telegram channel looking for “easy money.”
In exchange for the promise of quick money, he agreed to adjust Russian air attacks on the energy infrastructure of the Kyiv region to cut off electricity and heat supply to most of the region.
During a search of the detainee’s smartphone, an anonymous chat with a curator from Gru RF was discovered, with whom he communicated in the “disappearing” message mode.
Security Service investigators informed the agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is being held without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As a reminder, Security Service officers and police officers detained a terrorist who, on the orders of the Russian special services, blew up a car in Odessa on February 16.
As reported, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained an FSB agent in the Donetsk region who was coordinating Russian strikes on Sloviansk and collecting information about the Defense Forces.
