How many soldiers has Russia lost in the last year: British intelligence response
The Russian army lost more than 300,000 soldiers killed and wounded in 2025 alone. This data was published by British intelligence in its new analytical review.
According to her estimates , Russia’s total losses in manpower since the start of the full-scale invasion are about 1 million 118 thousand people. In this year alone, the army of the aggressor state lost approximately 332 thousand soldiers.
Analysts also estimated that the average daily losses of Russian forces in September 2025 reached 950 people, which is a “modest increase compared to August.” From March to August of this year, the level of losses decreased every month, but in October the trend changed: from October 5 to 12, daily losses exceeded 1,000 people.
“The decline in Russia’s monthly casualty rate occurred at the same time as Russian forces maintained a high pace of operations across the entire front, and Russia continued to gradually conquer new territory,” the British intelligence report noted.
Recall that Russia has recorded a decrease in the number of volunteers who agree to fight against Ukraine . This indicates a loss of effectiveness of the financial incentives used by the Kremlin for military recruitment.
By the way, the idea of creating special “gamers’ troops” in Russia is actively being spread in pro-Kremlin media — that is, mobilized shooter fans who should learn to control drones more quickly. In fact, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC), this is an element of covert mobilization.
Also, for the first time since the start of full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the Russian state is spending almost half of all federal budget revenues on military needs. Every second ruble paid by taxpayers goes to support the army and purchase weapons.
