How will the defeat of the Pecheneg Dam affect the course of hostilities: the military’s response

Russian occupation forces have been trying to attack the Pecheneg Dam in the Kharkiv region for a long time, directing various types of weapons at the facility.

This was reported in the 16th Army Corps.

In particular, the enemy is making attempts to target the dam with Shahed-type strike drones, guided aerial bombs, missiles, Molniya UAVs, and FPV drones.

The Ukrainian military understands the risks of damage and is prepared for potentially critical damage.

“Relevant response plans were developed in advance. Backup routes have been developed in case of dam damage. They have been actively used before, and now fully allow us to provide the necessary logistics,” the 16th Corps reported.

At the same time, according to the military, Ukrainian units have sufficient material and technical resources, and therefore the possible loss of movement along the dam due to damage will not significantly affect combat operations.

In addition, the Defense Forces have special engineering facilities and specialists who, if necessary, are ready to restore the crossing in a short period of time.

“The Pecheneg Dam is a critically important facility that ensures water supply, ecosystem stability, and safety for dozens of settlements in the Kharkiv region,” the report says.

The military stressed that attempts to destroy the facility have no military justification. Instead, the Russian strikes on the dam are a violation of international humanitarian law.

As a reminder, on December 7 , Russian occupation troops struck the Pecheneg Reservoir dam in the Kharkiv region.
