The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has captured this image of the spiral galaxy NGC 2835. It is located 35 million light years from Earth in the constellation Hydra.

The corresponding photo was released by the ESA observatory.

Experts noted that this image of NGC 2835 differs from previously published photographs of this spiral galaxy by capturing a specific wavelength of red light (H-alpha).

Bright regions of H-alpha emission can be seen along the spiral “arms” of NGC 2835, where dozens of bright pink nebulae appear “like flowers on high.”

Scientists are interested in H-alpha light because it indicates the presence of different types of nebulae that form at different stages in the lives of stars.

Newborn massive stars form nebulae known as ionized hydrogen regions (H II regions).

They are particularly bright sources of H-alpha light, while dying stars can leave behind supernova remnants or planetary nebulae that can also be identified by their H-alpha emission.
