Hundreds of missiles for Ukrainian skies: Great Britain changed supply plans
The UK Ministry of Defense has delivered a batch of hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine five months ahead of schedule.
This is stated in a press release from the British government.
The Light Multi-Missile Missiles (LMMs) are manufactured at a facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland. These missiles have already been used to defend Ukrainian skies from Russian attacks since the start of a full-scale invasion in 2022. The transfer is part of an arms donation program implemented by the United Kingdom in support of Ukraine.
The British government noted that the current production of these missiles creates around 200 new jobs and supports another 700 existing ones in the defense industry. Thus, the supply not only strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities, but also stimulates the UK economy and contributes to the implementation of the domestic growth plan.
Additionally, a British defense trade delegation visited Kyiv this week, aiming to strengthen military cooperation with Ukraine.
“The UK is strengthening its unwavering commitment to helping Ukraine defend itself from Russia’s illegal invasion. This year alone, we are spending £4.5 billion on military support for Ukraine, more than ever before. It was an honour for me to lead this trade delegation to Kyiv,” said Luke Pollard, UK Under-Secretary of State for Defence for Defence Readiness and Industry.
As a reminder, the German industrial concern Rheinmetall announced that it will transfer Skyranger 35 anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, the financing of which will be carried out at the expense of funds from frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
As reported, Ukraine and the United Kingdom may soon launch joint production of interceptor drones. The project, called “Octopus,” has a clear goal: to combat the massive drone attacks that Russia launches daily against Ukrainian infrastructure.
