Hundreds of Russian soldiers arrived in Belarus for training: is there a threat?

The first Russian troops are already in Belarus, they will take part in joint exercises, the active phase of which is scheduled for September.

This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Service, Andriy Demchenko, during a telethon.

According to Demchenko, several hundred Russian military personnel and several dozen pieces of equipment have already entered the territory of Belarus. Belarus has also sent its units to Russia, where there are training grounds.

The State Border Service of the Republic of Belarus emphasized that they are constantly monitoring the possible arrival of Russian units to Belarus in order to understand how many they can use for exercises, especially on the territory of Belarus.

“This direction, as before, is threatening for us. Because during these exercises, we cannot rule out any provocations or further escalation of the security situation for our country,” the spokesman for the State Security Service of Ukraine explained.

However, Demchenko emphasized that the current number of Russian troops in Belarus does not pose a significant threat, and no strike groups have been formed near the Ukrainian border.

Earlier, Deputy State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Defense Andis Dilans stated that up to 150,000 military personnel will participate in the Russian Zapad exercises, which will take place in Belarus in 2025 .
