Ahead of the 2026 elections in Hungary, political betting is increasingly reflecting the balance of power and expectations for the outcome. Bookmakers are currently favoring opposition politician Peter Magyar.

This is reported by the Kontroll publication.

According to the vegas.hu platform, the odds for Magyar’s victory are 1.4, while the odds for incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán are 2.6. This means that the market values the Tisza party’s chances significantly higher than those of the ruling Fidesz-KDNP.

The situation is similar with bets on the position of prime minister: Orbán’s victory is considered less likely, but offers a larger potential payout.

Political betting works like sports betting: lower odds mean higher probability. Because of this, they are often considered a faster indicator than opinion polls.

In addition to vegas.hu, the international platform Polymarket also accepts bets on elections, but it was blocked in Hungary.

The elections are expected to be closely contested. Fidesz’s main rival will be the Tisza party, but smaller political forces could also determine the outcome.

Analysts note that the situation can change quickly – it will be influenced by campaign events, scandals, and voter sentiment.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the opinion that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban may be defeated in the upcoming parliamentary elections , after which Kyiv and Budapest will have the opportunity to restore full-fledged relations.

Recall that in Russia, foreign intelligence officers suggested staging an assassination attempt on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the eve of the election. Such a scenario was supposed to influence the course of the campaign and mobilize voter support.
