The leader of the Hungarian opposition party “Tisa” Peter Magyar has stated about possible Russian interference in the upcoming elections in Hungary. According to him, Russian military intelligence agents have been arriving in Budapest for several weeks.

He wrote about this on Facebook .

Magyar claims that the current Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, is trying to influence the election results by using Russian agents.

“It is absolutely unprecedented that a government on the verge of collapse wants to influence the Hungarian elections through external interference for its own benefit,” said Peter Magyar.

He said Russian agents have been arriving in the Hungarian capital for several weeks to influence the electoral process, comparing the situation to attempts to interfere in the elections in Moldova.

Magyar also called on the Hungarian government to immediately respond to the situation and expel Russian agents, who he said were in the country under diplomatic cover.

“I call on Viktor Orban to immediately cease his actions and expel from Hungary the Russian secret agents who arrived here under diplomatic cover,” he said.

In addition, the opposition leader demands that the National Security Committee of Hungary be convened to consider the situation.

“As the future head of government, I demand immediate information about what information the Hungarian government has received from the services of allied countries about Russian interference and why it has not yet taken measures in response to these unprecedented Russian actions,” said Peter Magyar.

He also emphasized that Hungary needs leadership that will not tolerate threats from the East.

“It is in Hungary’s interest to remain a stable, predictable partner that allies consider reliable,” the politician added.

It was previously reported that Russia had sent a group of specialists to Budapest for possible interference in the parliamentary elections in Hungary and support for the government of Viktor Orban.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the opinion that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban may be defeated in the upcoming parliamentary elections , after which Kyiv and Budapest will have the opportunity to restore full-fledged relations.
