Hungarian Parliament Overturns Orban’s Decision on ICC

The Hungarian Parliament has overturned the decision to withdraw the country from the International Criminal Court, which was initiated by the government of Viktor Orbán in 2025.

This is reported by Telex.

133 deputies from the Tisza party voted in favor of the decision. 37 deputies from Fidesz-KDNP voted against it, and five more representatives from the Mi Hazank party abstained.

The law will enter into force the day after its official publication.

Last week, the government already announced its intention to stop the process of Hungary’s withdrawal from the ISS, which was initiated by Orbán’s previous cabinet.

New Prime Minister Péter Magyar submitted the bill to parliament on May 26. He stated that maintaining Hungary’s participation in the International Criminal Court is necessary to maintain international peace, security, and the protection of human rights.

According to Magyar, the international judicial mechanism should ensure punishment for the most serious international crimes.

As a reminder, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban condemned Russia’s nighttime combined attack on Kyiv and expressed support for the victims and the people of Ukraine.
