Hungary refused to store Ukrainian fuel on its territory

Hungary has opposed the creation of fuel storage facilities on its territory for the Ukrainian market. The idea was to store petroleum products outside Ukraine and thus protect them from Russian missile and drone attacks.

This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar during a speech in parliament.

Previously, the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and the Ukrainian Naftogaz signed a memorandum on the creation of oil product storage facilities in Hungary. From there, fuel was to be supplied to the Ukrainian market.

One of the main reasons for this decision was security. Placing the reserves outside Ukraine would protect them from Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

However, the Hungarian Prime Minister opposed this idea. According to him, MOL was negotiating with the Ukrainian side without the consent of the government.

“There will be no Ukrainian oil storage facility in Hungary,” said Magyar.

He called MOL’s actions unacceptable and warned that they would have consequences.

Fidesz MP Bence Retváry also spoke out against the creation of such storage facilities. He stated that the facilities could allegedly pose a security threat and risks to residents of the eastern regions of Hungary.
