Parliamentary elections began in Hungary on Sunday, April 12, and have already seen record voter turnout.
As of 1:00 PM, voter turnout was 54.14%—over 4 million citizens. By comparison, during the 2022 elections, the turnout was lower at 3:00 PM (52.8%).
Particularly high activity is observed in regions where support is traditionally found for the Tisza party led by Péter Magyar , the main opponent of the current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his Fidesz party.
The highest turnout was recorded in the electoral districts of Pest County:
- In the 2nd district (the center is the city of Budaörs), 61.16% of voters have already voted (versus 44.09% in 2022);
- In the 15th district of Budapest, turnout exceeded 60% (previously – 42.25%);
- High figures are also seen in the 5th district (Dunakezi and Ged).
According to journalists, the largest influx of people occurred in the morning hours, and by lunchtime the queues at the polling stations had practically disappeared.
Analysts note that such a high turnout could have a significant impact on the voting results, especially given the tense struggle between the government and the opposition.
