Hungary threatens to halt electricity and gas exports to Ukraine
Hungary may suspend electricity and natural gas exports to Ukraine if transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is not restored.
This was stated by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Chief of Staff, Gergely Gulyás , during a briefing on February 19, ExPro reports.
According to him, Budapest is prepared to take appropriate measures if Kyiv does not resume Russian oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. Hungary also intends to coordinate its actions with Slovakia , which previously announced the possible suspension of electricity exports to Ukraine.
In addition, Gulyash reported that the government had decided to release strategic oil reserves following an appeal from the state-owned company MOL .
As a reminder, Hungary initiated negotiations with Croatia on transporting Russian oil via the Adriatic route following the cessation of transit via the Druzhba pipeline, which runs through Ukraine.
As reported, Croatia responded to Hungary and Slovakia’s request to transport Russian oil via the Adria pipeline.
