Former FBI Director Robert Mueller has died at the age of 81. US President Donald Trump publicly commented on his death, making a sharp statement.

This is reported by Fox News .

Mueller’s family announced his death without specifying the cause.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that Bob passed away last night. The family asks that their privacy be respected,” the statement said.

US President Donald Trump reacted to the death of the former FBI director on social media.

“Robert Mueller just died. Well, I’m glad he’s dead. He can’t hurt innocent people anymore!” Trump said.

Mueller has enjoyed the support of both the Democratic and Republican parties for many years. His nomination to the FBI director position, proposed by President George W. Bush just days before the September 11, 2001, attacks, was unanimously approved.

President Barack Obama later asked him to remain in office after completing his 10-year term, a decision that also received full support.

Mueller led the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 12 years, becoming the longest-serving director since J. Edgar Hoover.

From 2017 to 2019, he led the investigation into Russian interference in the US election , which led to Donald Trump becoming president for the first time.

As part of this investigation, investigators documented numerous contacts between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and Russian officials. At the same time, both sides denied these connections.

The reports also noted that the Trump campaign “expected to gain electoral benefit from information stolen and released through Russia’s efforts.”

At the same time, Mueller did not prove collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian Federation, and did not indict the then-president, explaining this by limitations on holding the head of state accountable.

Donald Trump and his allies have repeatedly criticized this investigation, calling it a “witch hunt.”
