US President Donald Trump said he would resolve the crisis between Afghanistan and Pakistan “very quickly” during the second day of peace talks in Istanbul, which are expected to result in a lasting ceasefire and stabilization of security on the border.

This is reported by the Associated Press .

The second round of talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan began in Istanbul on Saturday, with the main goal being to transform the previous temporary ceasefire into a long-term mechanism for controlling border security.

“I heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started talks. But I’ll get it done very quickly,” Trump said, adding that Pakistan’s leaders are “great people.”

Pakistan said five soldiers were killed in border clashes and 25 militants were killed in two infiltration bids. Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of allowing militants to cross the border to carry out attacks inside the country.

The Taliban reported that after 15 hours of negotiations, the Afghan side submitted a draft agreement that provides for Pakistan to respect the territorial integrity of Afghanistan and prevent the use of its territory against Afghanistan.

The Pakistani side sent its draft agreement on Saturday evening. Information on the Pakistani government’s further steps is not yet available.

Local analysts say Trump’s comments could energize Pakistan’s political and military leadership, which is seeking to strengthen relations with the White House.

By the way, new clashes have broken out along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan , resulting in dozens of deaths.

Recall, late on Saturday evening, October 11, intense fighting began on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan after Kabul accused Islamabad of carrying out airstrikes on the Afghan capital.
