In a month, the Defense Forces regained control of 400 square kilometers — Syrian

Since the end of January 2026, Ukrainian units have regained control of 400 sq. km of territory and eight settlements in the South.

This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky.

He noted that in the Oleksandrivka direction, the Defense Forces are not just holding the defense, but are also successfully conducting offensive operations.

“Since the end of January this year, in the Oleksandrivka direction, the DShV group and adjacent units have regained control over 400 sq. km of territory and eight settlements,” the Commander-in-Chief noted.

Despite the Ukrainian military’s success in this area, the situation remains difficult. The enemy continues to press: to advance, the Russians are using small assault groups that are supposed to infiltrate deep, artillery, drones, and in some places even armored vehicles.

Syrsky discussed with unit commanders the status of combat mission performance, problematic issues, and proposals for their resolution.

“We have identified priority steps to strengthen defense and support our units. Logistics, evacuation of the wounded, uninterrupted supply of ammunition, technical support of units — necessary conditions for our stability,” the Commander-in-Chief added.

Let us recall that, taking advantage of favorable conditions, after blocking Starlink terminals and the Telegram messenger for Russians, the Ukrainian military began to conduct counterattacks on the border of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions.

As is known, Ukrainian fighters are in active defense in the Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipil directions, while at the same time they are conducting counterattacks and carrying out counter-sabotage measures.

By the way, the Defense Forces managed to push back the Russians near the settlements of Ternove, Vyshneve, and Verbove in the Oleksandrivka direction.
