In Chernihiv region, “escape” from the army was being sold: the State Bureau of Investigation showed how the scheme worked

A group was exposed in the Chernihiv region that helped servicemen illegally leave their places of service for money. For organizing one such escape, the participants received 8 thousand dollars.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Central Region.

According to the investigation, the scheme was organized by a civilian. He learned about military personnel who were planning to escape from service and offered them help in exchange for money. He involved two military personnel and another civilian in the case.

The participants divided up their roles. One of the soldiers was to use his official authority to escort the fugitive through the checkpoints without hindrance. The others were to pick him up from his place of duty and take him away.

The group also offered its services via social media, where the suspects sought out military personnel who wanted to illegally leave the service.

The first escape under this scheme was organized on September 2. The serviceman was taken from his place of duty, brought to a designated location, and given civilian clothes. After that, he was to be taken by car in the direction of Chernihiv.

For this, the participants received 8 thousand dollars. Immediately after receiving the money, they were detained by law enforcement officers.

“Four individuals have been reported suspected of having organized a criminal scheme to facilitate the desertion of servicemen from training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to evade further military service,” the prosecutor’s office reported.

All four were charged with a completed attempt to organize desertion under martial law based on a prior conspiracy by a group of individuals. They face criminal liability under Part 3 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 15, Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court chose preventive measures for the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail.

Investigators are checking whether the group is involved in other cases of organizing escapes of military personnel.
