In Donetsk region, an officer made money from shawarma by using soldiers’ hands: the State Bureau of Investigation referred the case to court

In the Donetsk region, an officer in a military unit used his subordinates for his own business for more than two years. Instead of performing combat missions, the soldiers prepared and sold shawarma in the Pokrovsky district.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation, which completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted the indictment to the court.

According to the investigation, the deputy chief of the unit forced two servicemen to perform construction and housekeeping work in his own household. Later, they built and maintained a shawarma stall owned by the officer’s wife.

“The woman actually managed their “service” – distributed responsibilities and controlled earnings,” the SBI noted.

The soldiers received full financial support, including payments for alleged participation in hostilities. As a result, the state suffered losses of over 4 million hryvnias .

The officer is charged with abuse of office and aiding and abetting military personnel in evading service during martial law (Part 2 of Article 364, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Separately, indictments have been filed against two servicemen who carried out illegal orders from their commander. They are accused of evading military service through deception.

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Eastern Region is responsible for procedural management of the case.

Earlier, law enforcement officers detained the deputy rector of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky National Academy of the State University of Ukraine, who was forcing his subordinates to build him a house .

Earlier, in the Odessa region , SBI officers exposed a military unit commander who involved four subordinates in the renovation of his own apartment .
