Geneva Shake-Up: US and Ukraine Slash ‘Peace Plan’

Following negotiations in Geneva, the Ukrainian and US delegations agreed on significant revisions to the peace plan, reducing it from 28 points to 19.

An informed source reported this to RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, the document will no longer contain 28 points; it will be shortened and focused solely on issues related to bilateral relations between Kyiv and Washington. Other topics, including economic ties between the US and Russia, will be addressed separately in US–Russia and US–EU formats.

The source notes that the plan will remove the provision imposing a strict limit on the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. During the discussions, the Ukrainian delegation and military representatives explained why Ukraine requires a substantial number of personnel both during wartime and peacetime.

“I don’t think the formula of 600,000 soldiers, which was in the initial version, will remain,” the source said.

The document will also eliminate the clause on amnesty for crimes committed during the Russian-Ukrainian war. According to the source, this topic generated much speculation and was removed from the agenda following the Geneva discussions.

Negotiations between the delegations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

It was previously reported that during the talks in Geneva, American and Ukrainian diplomats changed the “peace project”, reducing it to 19 points.

Recall that the United States may postpone the previously established deadline for signing a peace agreement for a certain period of time.
