In Germany, police are investigating a possible sabotage at an electrical substation: a suspicious object was found near the facility in the city of Dormagen, located between Cologne and Düsseldorf. According to the preliminary version, unknown people may have tried to deliberately cause a short circuit.
This is reported by Spiegel.
A passerby noticed a suspicious object near the substation. After that, the police arrived at the scene and surrounded the area. What exactly was found has not yet been officially specified. Experts must determine whether this structure could have damaged the energy facility.
The Cologne police suggest that the goal could have been a short circuit.
“Someone was apparently trying to deliberately cause a short circuit,” a police spokesman said.
Investigators also received a letter claiming responsibility. Its contents are not being fully disclosed at this time. Law enforcement officers are verifying the authenticity of the document and a possible connection to previous attacks on energy infrastructure.
This is not the first such incident in Germany in recent days. In Bergheim, west of Cologne, unknown persons tried to disable a substation. Several homemade triggering devices were found there, with which, according to the investigation, they could have thrown a wire on the power lines. This caused a short circuit.
A similar incident occurred in Brandenburg, where improvised devices were used to direct conductive material towards high-voltage lines. The attack caused short circuits and temporarily shut down one of the power plant units.
German law enforcement is investigating whether these cases are connected. Possible theories include foreign interference and the activities of left-wing extremists.
At the same time, in Dormagen, according to preliminary data, no damage to the substation or power outages were recorded.
As a reminder,Germany officially stated that Russia was responsible for the attempted sabotage at Leipzig/Halle airport . In early August, a drone with explosives was discovered there near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
In addition, two disturbing incidents occurred in Germany overnight: an unidentified object exploded at Augsburg’s main train station, injuring two people, and at a substation near Cologne, police suspected deliberate damage to equipment.
As reported, on the morning of September 2 , an explosion occurred at the Augsburg Central Station in Germany, injuring two Ukrainian citizens — a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy. Later, another suspicious object was found near the main entrance to the station, but it did not explode.
