At Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany, unidentified individuals damaged a fence near the parking lot of three Russian An-124 cargo planes on the evening of October 17. Police are investigating the incident, but have not been able to identify those involved because a surveillance camera near the scene was turned off.
This is reported by Bild .
According to journalists, unknown individuals, probably in a car, broke through the fence near three An-124 aircraft, which have been at the airport since 2022 due to European Union sanctions, and then fled.
After the incident, the northern runway was closed and all flights were redirected to the southern runway.
Federal and territorial police officers arrived at the scene. They searched the airport area, but found no unauthorized persons or a vehicle in which the perpetrators could have escaped.
German police have announced the start of an investigation. At the same time, a 360-degree camera installed approximately 1.7 kilometers from the damaged area was not working at the time of the incident.
Airport officials explained that the camera is designed to monitor aircraft movements, not to monitor security along the entire 40-kilometer fence. It is manually activated when needed.
The damaged section of the fence is located along a public road. There is also an emergency access road nearby, which is used during large-scale exercises at airports.
As a reminder, several improvised explosive and incendiary devices were discovered in the federal state of Brandenburg, near the Jenschwalde coal-fired power plant. Law enforcement officers are investigating a possible attempt to damage energy infrastructure.
As reported,Germany officially declared Russia responsible for the attempted sabotage at Leipzig/Halle airport. In early August, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
In addition, two disturbing incidents occurred in Germany overnight: an unidentified object exploded at Augsburg’s main train station, injuring two people, and at a substation near Cologne, police suspected deliberate damage to equipment.
