In Kharkiv, a minor planned a terrorist attack ordered by the Russian Federation
The SBU counterintelligence and the National Police prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Kharkiv and detained a 16-year-old Russian military intelligence agent.
This was reported by the press center of the SBU.
The investigation established that the minor had assembled a homemade explosive device himself. He planned to plant it in an apartment in a high-rise building in the city center.
According to law enforcement officials, the Russian curators were going to organize a fake call to 102 to lure a police patrol and remotely detonate the explosives.
SBU officers uncovered the plot during the preparation stage and detained the suspect in a hotel room where he was completing the manufacture of the device.
Investigators found out that the GRU recruited a 16-year-old from Odessa through a Telegram channel with offers of quick money. On the instructions of the curator, he arrived in Kharkiv, received the coordinates of the cache and took 4 kg of explosives, a mobile phone and components for the SVP.
In a hotel room, the young man assembled a bomb according to the instructions of a Russian intelligence officer. After completing the work, he was to receive the apartment address and keys to plant the explosives and a phone with remote access for the curators.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized an improvised explosive device and a smartphone with evidence of collaboration with the enemy.
Investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – preparation for a terrorist act committed by a group of persons in prior conspiracy. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by SBU officers in the Kharkiv region together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
Earlier it was reported that the Security Service detained another agent in the Kyiv region who worked for Russian military intelligence . The attacker was preparing new rocket attacks by the occupiers on thermal power plants in the capital region of Ukraine.
As a reminder, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained an FSB agent in the Donetsk region who was coordinating Russian strikes on Sloviansk and collecting information about the Defense Forces.
