In Kharkiv, a stepmother beat a three-year-old boy to death.

In Kharkiv, law enforcement officials have issued a notice of suspicion to a 40-year-old woman who beat a three-year-old boy to death. A court has ordered her to be held in custody without bail.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported this.

According to the investigation, after his mother’s death, the child lived with his father, his partner, and his daughter. The father worked almost 24/7 at a rehabilitation center, so his stepmother provided care for the child.

In early October, a conflict broke out between him and the child, during which the woman brutally beat the boy, punching and kicking him in the head and face. The child lost consciousness as a result of his injuries.

To cover up the crime, the suspect called an ambulance and told paramedics that the boy had fallen in the bathroom. The child was hospitalized, but died a few days later without regaining consciousness.

“On the day of the tragedy, neighbors heard screaming, crying, and cursing coming from the apartment. Medics confirmed that the injuries could not have been caused by a fall,” the Prosecutor General’s Office noted.

The woman was charged under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of a minor. She faces up to 10 years in prison.
