In Kharkiv region, a student spied for Russia in exchange for the murder of his stepfather

The SBU and the National Police detained a 17-year-old student in the Kharkiv region, who is suspected of working for Russian special services and transmitting data about the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police.

According to the investigation, the Balakliya resident was recruited via Telegram after he tried to order the killing of his stepfather in a family conflict. In return, he was offered cooperation in the interests of the Russian Federation.

“In one of the chats, the minor was told by the Russian Federation that they were promising to eliminate his relative in exchange for espionage,” the case materials state.

After being recruited, the young man began collecting information about the locations of Ukrainian military personnel in the Izyum direction. He traveled around the territory under the guise of working trips and recorded data on the positions of the Defense Forces.

“During reconnaissance sorties, the suspect marked on Google maps the locations of personnel and equipment concentration,” the SBU noted.

He also provided coordinates of objects that could be used as logistical bases. He sent the information to the curator in the form of texts, photos, and videos.

According to the investigation, he received 645 hryvnias for the completed tasks.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect in a student dormitory. During the search, a phone with evidence of data transmission was seized.

He was informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law). The court chose a preventive measure – detention without bail. If found guilty, the teenager faces up to 15 years in prison.

The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a Russian agent network that coordinated attacks on the Kyiv and Odessa regions . Counterintelligence detained an FSB agent who had not been used for 12 years.

As reported, the SBU counterintelligence has detained a Russian agent in Transcarpathia who was spying on defense factories. The recruit turned out to be an employee of a local factory whowas spying on enterprises that fulfilled defense orders in the west of the country.
