In Kyiv, a foreigner set fire to civilian cars, passing them off as Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicles
In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 24-year-old Georgian citizen suspected of setting cars on fire at the behest of Russian special services.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office and the Kyiv police.
According to the investigation, the man came to Ukraine in early March in search of work. Later, he was offered money via Telegram for setting fire to military vehicles.
However, as law enforcement officers established, the suspect was not looking for real Ukrainian Army vehicles, but rather glued Ukrainian army symbols onto civilian SUVs, then set them on fire and filmed everything on his phone.
“The man decided not to look specifically for military vehicles, but personally pasted the symbols of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on civilian SUVs, and then set them on fire,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
The investigation established that in the Darnytsia district he burned Cherry Tiggo 2 and Ssang Yong Rexton cars belonging to local residents.
According to police, the arsonist was detained in a rented apartment. His phone with correspondence with representatives of Russian special services, as well as other physical evidence, was seized.
“After that, he turned on the camera on his phone and filmed the process: pouring a flammable substance on the car and setting it on fire,” law enforcement officials noted.
The man was charged with intentional damage to property by arson. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect – detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 133 thousand hryvnias.
As a reminder, in Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained an FSB agent who organized the arson of Defense Forces vehicles and recruited perpetrators of sabotage.
As reported, in one of the districts of Kyiv, a 19-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl burned three Tesla cars to order.
