In Kyiv, a taxi driver beat up a famous singer

A 63-year-old taxi driver was detained in Kyiv for hitting singer Tonya Matvienko during a ride.

The capital’s police reported this.

It was established that the detainee is a local resident. A criminal case was opened on the fact of the beating under Part 1 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (battery and torture). The offender faces a fine, community service or correctional labor.

The incident occurred on June 30 during a ride on the Bolt service. According to Matvienko, the driver rudely responded to a request to close the window due to a draft and ignored the request, refusing to close the windows due to the heat.

“The situation escalated into an inappropriate conversation, I asked him to stop the car, he refused, I had to open the door while driving, after which he stopped. I got out, slammed the door, then he got out and hit me first in the head, then in the shoulder,” the singer said.

The pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing.
