In Kyiv, they say goodbye to Patriarch Filaret at St. Michael’s Cathedral

Farewell to the emeritus Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Filaret, is underway at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv.

The Patriarch’s body was brought to the cathedral, where the clergy, led by Metropolitan Epiphanius, greeted him in a lively corridor. After that, the funeral service began.

Clergy and Kyiv residents come to say goodbye to Filaret. Metropolitan Epiphany emphasized that the Patriarch spoke until the very end about love as a unifying force.

The farewell will last until the morning of March 22. The Gospel will be read in the church and requiem prayers will be performed.

A requiem Divine Liturgy and memorial service will be held on March 21, after which the farewell will continue throughout the day.

On Sunday, March 22, at 8:30 a.m., a memorial service will begin at St. Michael’s Cathedral, led by Metropolitan Epiphanius. A funeral service will follow.

At around 11:00 a.m., the funeral procession will head to St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral, where the funeral will be completed and the burial will be held in accordance with the will of the Patriarch.
