In Latvia, a drone crashed into an oil tank in Rezekne
In Latvia, airspace violations by drones were recorded overnight, which, according to preliminary data, flew in from Russia. One of the drones fell on the territory of oil infrastructure in the city of Rezekne and hit a tank.
According to Delfi, the incident occurred at around 03:30, when emergency services began receiving reports of a possible fire at the oil depot. Rescuers who arrived at the scene did not find any open fire, but confirmed that one of the tanks needed cooling.
The head of the Rēzekne Regional Duma, Guntars Skudra, noted that the drone hit an empty tank on the territory of the East-West Transit enterprise.
“One of the drones fell on the territory of the facility and damaged the tank,” he said.
Locals reported hearing a rumble in the sky, flashes of light and sounds similar to explosions. Videos of the incident also appeared on social media.
According to Latvian law enforcement, there could have been two drones in total. The second crash site is currently being determined.
“The fire has been contained, there is no threat,” said Andris Zellis, deputy chief of the Latvian State Police. He also added that criminal proceedings have been initiated to clarify all the circumstances.
After the incident, residents of several regions received warnings about a possible air threat.
