In Odessa, a man damaged almost 30 monuments in a cemetery: he was detained

In Odessa, law enforcement officers have exposed a man who damaged nearly three dozen monuments in one of the city’s cemeteries. The perpetrator faces up to seven years behind bars for his crime

The regional police press service reported this.

In particular, the director of the cemetery located in the Peresypsky district reported the incident. Law enforcement officers recorded damage to 29 tombstones.

It was established that a 38-year-old man with no permanent address was involved in the crime that took place at the end of August. He explained that he went to the cemetery at night while intoxicated and smashed gravestones for hooligan reasons, which he regrets.

The man was informed of suspicion of desecration of graves, committed for hooligan motives. The maximum punishment for this crime is up to seven years in prison.

The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention. The amount of material damage caused by the man is being determined. Investigative actions are ongoing.
