In Poland, near the city of Rzeszow, the remains of 32 unborn children were discovered buried in the ground on a private plot of land. A 57-year-old pathologist has been detained in the case and is being charged with two counts.
This is reported by the Wyborcza newspaper.
In the village of Lutoryzh near Ryashev, investigators continue to examine the land plot where the bodies of unborn children were discovered. According to the prosecutor’s office, the discovery of 32 bodies buried at various depths has now been officially confirmed. Law enforcement officers have also found fragments of destroyed documentation and other medical materials.
On June 13, detained doctor Magdalena G. complained of feeling unwell while in custody. She was taken to the hospital for examination, but was later taken to the prosecutor’s office for procedural actions.
The prosecutor’s office reported that they plan to charge the woman with the following articles:
- desecration of the remains of the dead;
- leaving medical materials in a place not intended for their storage or disposal.
The first crime carries a sentence of up to 2 years in prison, the second carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
Investigators do not rule out that other individuals may have been involved in this activity. The prosecutor’s office notes that the investigation is at an early stage.
All discovered remains have been transported to the morgue for forensic examinations. Law enforcement officers are also checking neighboring land plots using ground-penetrating radar and a specially trained dog to rule out the presence of other burials or medical waste.
According to Polish journalists, Magdalena G. explained that during the COVID-19 pandemic, she took dead fetuses from the hospital for medical research. According to her version, after the research was completed, she put the bodies in bags and buried them on her own plot of land.
It is reported that during the period in question, the doctor worked at Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Rzeszów, although she lived in Zamość.
According to Polish media, the burial was accidentally discovered by an excavator operator while preparing the area for residential development. After the remains were discovered, construction work was immediately stopped and law enforcement was notified of the find.
Currently, the prosecutor’s office is continuing its investigative actions and is awaiting the results of the examinations, which should help establish all the circumstances of the case.
