At the prestigious TE Vizja international high school in Warsaw, 15-year-old Daryna Gladysh, daughter of former Ukrainian national team player Yuriy Gladys, was harassed by Polish classmates and later expelled from the school with a demand for compensation of $139,000. The case attracted the attention of Ukrainian and Polish authorities and became the subject of an investigation.

This is reported by Przeglad Sportowy.

The incident began on October 1, 2025, after Daryna had a conflict with one of the lyceum students. After that, a group of teenagers created a closed chat on social networks, where they systematically insulted the girl based on her nationality and appearance. The insulting messages included the following phrases: “15 people hate you”, “open your eyes, you bitch”, “f *** ing Ukrainian”.

Daryna’s parents, Marina and Yuriy Gladyr, immediately contacted the school administration, but the school did not take effective measures to protect the child. The provocateurs were not punished, and during Marina’s visit to the institution, one of the students and his friend dared to shout obscene words at the mother and daughter. The family was forced to hire a bodyguard and a lawyer for protection.

In November 2025, TE Vizja management notified the family of the termination of the contract and the deduction of Daryna from December 31. At the same time, the parents claim that the formal reason was the debt for education, and the deduction is legally unjustified.

In response to the parents’ request for compensation for moral damages in the amount of PLN 100,000 (~$28,000), the school filed a counterclaim for PLN 500,000 (~$139,000). PLN 100,000 allegedly for “undermining the reputation of TE Vizja” and PLN 100,000 each for “violation of the right to peace at work” for four school employees, some of whom the family had never even seen.

After the publications in the Polish media, the Warsaw police reacted promptly. Procedural actions were initiated with the participation of the minor Daryna and her mother. Other individuals also contacted the media editorial office, ready to report on problems with security and response to violence at this educational institution.

TE Vizja management declined to comment on the case, noting that the school operates within current procedures and security standards and emphasized the need to protect children’s personal data.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga called on the Polish side to ensure fair accountability for individuals who display a xenophobic attitude towards Ukrainians.

“I received assurances that the Polish side is reacting and will react appropriately,” Szybiga said.

He also emphasized that the Ukrainian people do not deserve such treatment, and several illustrative cases of responsibility should show that such behavior cannot become the norm in a civilized society. The Minister instructed the consular vertical to monitor all cases of xenophobia especially closely and to respond promptly and in a principled manner.

Earlier, Poland denied the involvement of a 12-year-old Ukrainian girl in the murder of an 11-year-old schoolgirl in the city of Jelenia Góra. Despite this, fake messages spread on social networks, causing a flurry of negative comments .

By the way, in Poland, law enforcement officers detained a man who threatened a Ukrainian saleswoman and made a Nazi gesture in a supermarket in the city of Gdynia . The attacker was charged with threats based on nationality and public propaganda of the Nazi regime.

The day before, it became known that the number of hate crimes against Ukrainians in Poland has sharply increased . Since the beginning of 2025, the number of such incidents has increased by almost half compared to last year.

We will remind you that in the Polish city of Wroclaw, a group of teenagers tricked a Ukrainian man into going on a “date”, where they mocked him and filmed it .
