In Poland, they demand to cancel the decision to name the unit “after the heroes of the UPA”

Polish President Karol Nawrocki expects Ukraine to change its position on granting one of its military units the honorary title “named after the heroes of the UPA.”

This was stated on the air of radio RMF24 on Friday by Marcin Przydach, head of the Bureau of International Policy under the President of Poland.

He emphasized that Poland should demand the rejection of this initiative.

According to Przydach, he had a “tough conversation” with the representative of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, who visited Warsaw last weekend.

“The ball is in Ukraine’s court. I also conveyed this to Budanov: it was the Ukrainian side that started this conflict. We reacted harshly,” Przydach noted.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, stated that the history of the Ukrainian and Polish peoples contains both glorious and tragic pages, but the commemoration of the heroes of the UPA did not have an anti-Polish connotation.

It is also reported that Kyrylo Budanov visited Warsaw last weekend, where he held meetings in the Chancellery of the President of Poland and in the Council of Ministers regarding tensions in Ukrainian-Polish relations in the context of historical issues.

Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki is allegedly considering the possibility of depriving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of Poland’s highest state award – the Order of the White Eagle – due to the decision to award one of the units of the SSO named after the Heroes of the UPA.
