In Russia, a captured “Azov soldier” was sentenced to 20 years in prison
Denys Holub, a Ukrainian prisoner of war and a member of the Azov regiment, has been sentenced to 20 years in a maximum-security colony. The verdict in the case of alleged “terrorism” was handed down by the Southern District Military Court of Russia.
This is reported by Russian media.
A Russian court found Golub guilty on two counts at once — “participation in a terrorist group” and “undergoing terrorist training.” He was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the first charge, and another six years for the second.
“The final punishment for the totality of crimes shall be imposed on Holuba D.N. by partially combining the imposed sentences in the form of imprisonment for a term of 20 years in a strict regime penal colony,” the court decision states.
Denys Holub is 28 years old. He is originally from Ivano-Frankivsk. According to the WarTears project, the soldier served in the Azov battalion as a sniper.
In the wanted list of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Denys Holub has been listed as missing since May 17, 2022. It is likely that this is when he was captured by Russian forces.
As a reminder, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko announced that the court has sentenced a Russian soldier involved in the execution of servicemen of the Defense Forces.
