In Sumy region, a drunk soldier got into a fatal accident: a teenager died

In Sumy region, law enforcement officers have detained a serviceman suspected of committing a fatal traffic accident. According to the investigation, the man was driving under the influence of alcohol.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

The accident occurred on the evening of June 1 near the village of Terny, Romensky District. According to preliminary information, the driver of a passenger car drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a motorcycle.

A 17-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in the accident. Medics fought for his life, but the boy died in hospital a few hours after the accident.

“The investigation established that the driver of the car was intoxicated,” the State Bureau of Investigation reported.

After the accident, the serviceman was detained. He has already been charged with violating traffic rules by a person who drove a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the death of a person.

“SBI employees detained the man and informed him of the suspicion,” the department noted.

Law enforcement officers are currently preparing a petition to the court to choose a preventive measure. If the suspect is proven guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles.

The procedural management of the case is carried out by the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

As a reminder, two servicemen of the territorial recruitment center and one civilian died in a road accident in Cherkasy region. Two more people were injured.
