In the Odessa region, traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway has been suspended due to a Russian attack on an infrastructure facility near the settlement of Mayaki. This has complicated the movement of vehicles to a number of checkpoints on the border with the Republic of Moldova.
This was reported by the State Border Service of Ukraine.
As noted in the department, the suspension of traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway has made travel to the checkpoints more difficult:
- “Palanka – Lighthouses – Comfortable”,
- “Reni – Giurgiulesti”,
- “Tobacco – Peaceful”,
- “Vinogradovka – Vulcanesti”,
- “Starokozache – Tudora”,
- “New Trojans – Chadyr Lunga”,
- “Orlovka – Isakcha”,
- “Dolynske”,
- “Railway”,
- “Forest”,
- “August”,
- “Maloyaroslavets”.
Along with this, the specified checkpoints continue to operate as usual. Citizens heading to enter Ukraine in the direction of the city of Odesa are being informed about the current restrictions and their transport is being redirected to other checkpoints.
Ukrainian border guards also discussed interaction with the border police of the Republic of Moldova to conduct explanatory work and redirect vehicles to alternative routes.
Among the possible alternative routes, checkpoints in Vinnytsia region, as well as “Mamalyga” and “Sokyryany” in Chernivtsi region, are named.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that due to citizens choosing alternative routes, an increase in traffic intensity has already been recorded at the “Mohyliv-Podilskyi” checkpoint on the border with the Republic of Moldova in Vinnytsia region.
To prevent delays in border crossing operations, border guards have taken additional measures and increased the number of border patrols. Currently, the “Mohyliv-Podilskyi” border crossing point is ensuring the passage of persons and vehicles as much as possible. Citizens are urged to take this information into account when planning trips.
By the way, on the night of December 19, Russian troops carried out another air strike on Odessa, which damaged a critical energy infrastructure facility . Due to the hit and the powerful shock wave, the civilian infrastructure of one of the most densely populated areas of the city suffered serious damage.
