In the Rivne region, a drunk 16-year-old driver fatally struck a pregnant woman.

In the Rivne region, a 16-year-old drunk driver caused a fatal accident. A 26-year-old pregnant woman walking along the side of the road was killed by the car. Medics were unable to save either the driver or the child.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Rivne region.

The tragedy occurred on the evening of August 14 in the village of Morochnoye. According to preliminary investigation data, a 16-year-old resident of Loknitsa, driving a VAZ car, struck a woman driving along the unpaved shoulder of the road in the same direction.

The victim was hospitalized. She was 37 weeks pregnant, but her injuries were not life-threatening. The baby also could not be saved.

After the accident, law enforcement officers tested the driver for intoxication. The test showed a blood alcohol level of 1.9 ppm .

The minor was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.

A criminal case has been opened regarding the accident under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules by a driver under the influence of alcohol, resulting in death.

Investigators are preparing notices of suspicion for the 16-year-old driver.
