The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, publicly declared that in Russia there must be a “social consensus” on key government decisions, warning that anyone who disagrees should be considered a “traitor to the Motherland” — with all the legal consequences that entails.

He made this statement during a Christmas broadcast on a state television channel, effectively giving his blessing to the repression of dissidents.

Kirill’s declaration formalizes totalitarianism, in which:

  • disagreement = crime,

  • faith = a tool of coercion,

  • morality = a weapon of the state.

This is not a new model. History provides clear examples:

  • Stalin’s USSR,

  • Nazi Germany,

  • modern North Korea.

When a religious leader publicly brands dissent as “treason,” it signals one thing: the church has been fully transformed into an ideological arm of a repressive state.

The Russian Orthodox Church has long abandoned discussions of faith, conscience, or salvation. Today, it speaks only the language of denunciation, punishment, and “legal consequences.”

The Russian Federation declares a “holy war” against the West — not merely against a group of states or an alliance, but against a system of values rooted in human rights and communal responsibility.

The concept of “spiritual and moral security” that Kirill invokes to shield himself, in practice, means control over thoughts rather than the regulation of “sin.”

This is a direct rejection of Christianity.

Christianity begins with freedom of conscience and the right to choose. The Russian Orthodox Church begins with the prohibition of conscience and the certainty of prescribed choice.

Where the church blesses violence against dissenters, religion ends — and the cult of the state begins, in which:

  • The state is God,

  • Power is truth,

  • Doubt is a crime.

This is how the totalitarian systems of the 20th century worked. This is how internal terror is formed: first moral stigma, then legal persecution, then repression.

Kirill’s statement is not an “emotion” or an “exaggeration”. It is a programmatic statement that legitimizes the destruction of any opposition in Russia, at the hands of the “spiritual authorities”. Russia has stopped even pretending that there is a border between the state and the church.

The Russian Orthodox Church is not about God – it is in the service of evil, which calls itself the “state” and “values.” And when faith becomes a weapon, and morality a pretext for prison, it means only one thing:
Satan no longer hides behind a robe – he speaks live.

On the eve of the meeting, Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church stated that the country needs a consensus around “the most important issues of our security,”  for those who “fall out” of such a consensus, there is the concept of a “traitor to the Motherland.” In fact, with his statement, the patriarch supports political repression in Russia.

As is known, Patriarch Kirill has repeatedly justified Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. After the mobilization was announced, he actually promised atonement for the sins of those who went to fight. In 2023, he declared that Russia was defending spiritual values through the war in Ukraine, and also called on Orthodox Russians to help the military.

In 2024, a religious leader called the war against Ukraine sacred, called for not being afraid of nuclear weapons, and prayed for Vladimir Putin, the government, and the Russian army.
