One of the key and long-standing characters of the animated series, Knurman, has been removed from The Simpsons. In a new episode of the 37th season, the creators announced that he is retiring.

TVLine writes about this.

In an episode called “Sceperance” in season 37, Knurman informed the Simpsons family that the Duff company, which he had been the face of for almost 30 years, would no longer use the character, as the old advertising images had lost their relevance.

For the first time in the entire series, the character of Barry Knurman appears without his usual costume, directly indicating that the era of such advertising symbols is coming to an end. Throughout the entire episode, the character never returns to the image of Knurman – even despite the events of the plot.

Knurman debuted on the series in 1997 and quickly became one of the show’s most recognizable characters. The character was voiced by actor Hank Azaria throughout.

The creators of the series do not specify whether this episode means the final farewell to the hero. In response to a journalist’s question, a representative of “The Simpsons” avoided a direct answer and limited himself to a humorous comment, accompanied by a classic image of the character: “Knurman says a lot of things. Oh, eh-eh-eh.”
