In the United States, a man died after trespassing on the secure grounds of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on the night of February 22. Law enforcement officers opened fire after he raised a rifle into a firing position.
This was reported by CBS News , citing a statement from the US Secret Service.
The Secret Service said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time. Agents, along with a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy, located the man in the inner perimeter near the north gate of the estate.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said officers approached for a check and encountered a man carrying a fuel canister and a shotgun.
“A deputy sheriff and two Secret Service agents went to the area to check. They encountered a white male who was carrying a fuel can and a gun,” Rick Bradshaw said.
According to him, the man was ordered to drop the canister and the gun. He put the canister down, but raised the gun into a shooting position, after which the law enforcement officers opened fire.
“They neutralized the threat,” said Rick Bradshaw, adding that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Miami Rafael Barros reported that there were no injuries among law enforcement officers.
The Secret Service also noted that there were no security personnel on the premises at the time of the incident. US President Donald Trump was in Washington this weekend.
