In Transcarpathia, a woman “rented out” her own children for begging for a thousand dollars

In Transcarpathia, a court found a 32-year-old resident of the village of Ilnytsia guilty of trafficking her own minor children for the purpose of exploiting them in begging. The woman was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property, and the children were placed in the care of their grandmother.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the prosecutor’s office, a 32-year-old resident of the village of Ilnytsia agreed to hand over her children — an 11-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter — to a third party for exploitation in begging for two weeks.

The woman planned to receive $500 for each child, for a total of $1,000.

The woman was detained on April 8 near Irshava immediately after receiving the money. She has been in custody since then.

“In court, the mother pleaded guilty and repented,” the prosecutor’s office noted.

Today, June 12, the court found the woman guilty under Part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – human trafficking of minors committed by the mother for the purpose of exploitation. The court sentenced her to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

“The children have been transferred to the care of their grandmother and are safe,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
