The government has authorized the use of public address systems to announce a moment of silence and honor the memory of the dead.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine , Yulia Svyrydenko .

According to her, from now on, public address systems can be used to announce a nationwide minute of silence every day at 9:00 a.m. — in memory of the fallen defenders and peaceful Ukrainians who died because of the war.

In particular, these systems will inform about the all-Ukrainian campaign “Light a Candle”, which takes place every year on the fourth Saturday of November in memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933.

“We are forming a new culture of memory. A daily minute of silence is an important component of it and a manifestation of our respect for the fallen Defenders and civilians,” Svyrydenko noted.

It was previously reported that on February 1, 2026, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported a bill to introduce a nationwide minute of silence every day at 9:00 a.m. in memory of those who died as a result of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation.

Subsequently, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law establishing a nationwide minute of silence at the state level.
