In Ukraine, a sharp drop to -20°C is possible in winter: when to expect frost

This winter in Ukraine may be mostly warm, but severe frosts may still occur. In the second half of winter, the temperature may drop sharply to -15…-20°C in some places.
This is stated in an analysis by the NOAA Climate Prediction Center.
The reason for this cooling could be the situation in the Arctic. Forecasters are monitoring the polar vortex – a large mass of cold air that usually remains in the north.
If the polar vortex weakens, Arctic air could move south and reach Ukraine.
The greatest risk of such a cold snap is expected from January 15 to February 20. Severe frosts may primarily affect Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions.
The temperature can drop very quickly – literally in a day or a half. For example, after +2°C, the thermometer bars can show -15…-20°C.
Such cold weather may last for about 5-10 days. Then warmer air from the Atlantic may again come to Ukraine.
This is not an accurate forecast, but only one of the possible weather scenarios for this winter.
