In Ukraine, drivers will be automatically fined for not having a license plate

From March 2026, automatic violation recording systems will check the license plate number with the register of insured vehicles.

Drivers of cars that do not have electronic insurance will automatically receive fines. This feature will work in a test format for now.

“If data on the OSCPV policy is missing from the MTIBU database, this will be considered a lack of insurance regardless of the presence of a paper document,” the message says.

It is noted that the corresponding actions are the result of the efforts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Cabinet of Ministers to introduce digital services on Ukrainian roads and strengthen safety control.

It was previously reported that Ukraine plans to introduce a system of penalty points for drivers , similar to the one that has long been in operation in the EU.

Recall that, amid the growing number of fatal road accidents, Ukraine is preparing to increase the responsibility for drivers who violate the speed limit.
