In Vinnytsia region, a former military man demanded money from the family of a deceased defender
SBI employees exposed a former serviceman of one of the units in Vinnytsia region, who was demanding money from the family of a deceased defender.
This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the investigation, the man knew that the family of a serviceman who died in an explosion of an enemy drone while performing a combat mission was entitled to a one-time cash benefit of UAH 15 million. The payment is made in equal shares to family members.
“After the burial, he turned to one of the four sons of the deceased and stated that in order to “unhindered” receive funds, a bribe had to be paid, allegedly to the commander of the military unit, for the preparation of the “necessary” documents. At the same time, the defendant probably simply made up reasons why it was necessary to give a bribe and covered himself up with connections that he actually did not have,” the post says.
He set the amount of the so-called “kickback” at UAH 1.2 million — 10% of each son’s share. At the same time, he did not demand any money from the deceased’s new wife.
During further negotiations, the defendant reported that the amount had been reduced to UAH 500,000. It was to be transferred after receiving the first tranche of aid.
After transferring the entire amount, law enforcement officers detained the attacker and seized the money.
The man was reported on suspicion of obtaining an unlawful benefit for a third party for influencing a decision-making process by an official, combined with extortion (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
An investigation into the involvement of current military officials in this scheme is currently underway.
It is noted that the sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The court chose for him a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 998 thousand 400 UAH.
We will remind, in Kyiv, three “hereditary clairvoyants” were exposed who fraudulently swindled 1.4 million hryvnias from the families of deceased and missing servicemen.
