In Western Australia, a man died after a shark attack: details of the incident
In Western Australia, a 38-year-old man has died after being attacked by a shark near Rottnest Island, near Perth. The incident resulted in the victim failing to survive despite CPR efforts at the scene.
This is reported by the BBC .
Police said the incident happened around 10am local time on Saturday near Horseshoe Reef, northwest of Rottnest Island. The man was pulled to shore by boat, where paramedics and police attempted CPR on the pier in Geordie Bay.
“Unfortunately, the man could not be saved,” said a police spokesman.
The attack was the first fatality in the Western Australian region since March last year, when a surfer was attacked by a shark on a remote beach.
The Perth Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development said it had received information about a possible great white shark attack and urged residents to exercise extreme caution when in the area.
Rottnest Island is a popular tourist destination, known for its white sand beaches and surfing areas.
