Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will be able to meet its oil needs from alternative sources if Russian supplies are cut off by US sanctions.

This was reported by Reuters.

India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that his country can solve any problems with Russian imports by sourcing from other countries.

Singh Puri noted that the global oil market has many suppliers, such as Guyana, Brazil and Canada.

In addition, India is expanding exploration and production activities.

Puri said he was not concerned about a possible cessation of oil supplies from Russia.

“India has diversified its sources of supply and we seem to have gone from about 27 countries we used to buy from to about 40 countries now,” Puri said.

It is worth noting that India’s oil imports from Russia increased in 2025. In particular, private refineries Reliance Industries Ltd and Nayara Energy accounted for about half of total purchases.

Russia is the main supplier of oil to India, accounting for about 35% of total supplies, followed by Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

It was previously reported that the US is considering the possibility of introducing new sanctions that could affect not only Russia, but also countries that maintain economic ties with it .

As reported, EU countries have made significant progress in agreeing on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. The new sanctions include a reduction in the ceiling price for Russian oil.
