India has significantly reduced its imports of Russian oil after Washington imposed sanctions and tariff restrictions. This has already significantly affected energy exports from Russia and is putting additional pressure on Moscow.

US President Donald Trump made the statement while commenting on his talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to him, Modi invited Trump to visit India, and the American leader plans to make the trip next year.

Trump also expressed hope for a quick end to the war in Ukraine, noting that the numerous casualties among the civilian population and Russian military should force Moscow to enter into peace negotiations.

Recall that after the introduction of new sanctions against Russian energy companies, Indian oil refineries temporarily stopped placing new orders for the supply of Russian oil.

As reported, India, which is one of the main buyers of Russian raw materials, may continue to import oil through intermediaries. Exports from Russia’s main western ports – Primorsk, Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk – in October amounted to about 2.33 million barrels per day, which corresponds to the updated shipment plan for the month.

India has since resumed buying Russian oil after a temporary hiatus caused by US sanctions . Indian Oil Corp has purchased five batches of Siberian crude from suppliers not subject to restrictions and plans to receive the cargoes in December.
