India ready to join peace efforts regarding war in Ukraine

India is ready to help Ukraine find a way to end the war if New Delhi requires specific assistance.
This was stated by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar after talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiga in Kyiv, RBC reports.
According to Jaishankar, India is aware of the scale of the consequences of Russian aggression and understands that prolonging the war means new casualties and destruction. At the same time, New Delhi recognizes that the main solution to ending the fighting must be found by Ukraine and Russia.
“But if India can help in any way, we are ready to do so,” the Indian minister stressed.
He also recalled the position of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During a recent conversation with Vladimir Putin, the latter called on the Russian leader to stop the war.
“We must move from endless war to ending war,” Modi said.
A separate topic of the talks in Kyiv was the security of merchant shipping. Jaishankar said that the parties discussed attacks on civilian vessels under different flags.
For India, this issue has broader implications, as similar incidents can impact countries in the Global South, particularly through risks to fuel, fertilizer, and food supplies.
“So we exchanged views on these and related issues,” the Indian Foreign Minister concluded.
As a reminder, Indian oil refining companies are reducing purchases of Russian oil due to supply problems . Russian exports, in particular, have been affected by Ukrainian strikes on refineries and ports.
