An Indian fighter jet, the Tejas, crashed during a demonstration flight at the Dubai Airshow. The crash caused a massive fire, and it is currently unknown whether the pilot ejected or what caused the crash.

The crash occurred at around 2:15 p.m. local time during a scheduled demonstration flight program at the Dubai Air Show. Video footage shows the plane rapidly approaching the ground and crashing into it, causing a massive fire.

“The footage shows that the plane fell vertically, which immediately led to a fire,” the eyewitness said.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown. It could have been a technical malfunction or a human factor.

The Indian-developed Tejas fighter jet made its first flight on January 4, 2001. The first recorded crash of such a light combat aircraft occurred on March 12, 2024, near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, during a training flight.

“This is the first Tejas incident during an international air show,” The Hindu journalists noted.

The aircraft participated in display flights on the last day of the Dubai Airshow, demonstrating the maneuverability and combat capabilities of the Indian development.
